What happens when children draw? Why do they love it so much and should we be encouraging more of it?
When children draw a picture there can be no wrong answer, there’s no incorrect drawing as a representation of a child’s imagination. It’s the ultimate experimentation without fear of failure; building confidence, resilience and self- appreciation which are essential skills we all want in our classrooms.
No only that, but it is the precursor to writing, role play and talking. When a child draws they work at the intersection of image, spoken words and written text.
Drawing pictures naturally leads into sequences events, descriptions, nouns and eventually sentences.
So should we be encouraging drawing in schools wherever possible?
Yes!!!!
